Gardening Together
The last day of March is here and it’s back to the garden time.
During the pandemic when social media was a great tool to stay connected, I began posting on an (almost) daily basis with the idea of sharing and to garden together. Plants are great connectors. They connect people and also connect us to something greater - nature.
With that idea in mind I write this post to encourage people to grow something edible this year. Harvesting and eating something fresh from the garden is such a gift. A garden can be a small container in a window or a balcony. We moved from an urban rooftop container garden to a few raised beds in a small garden. A big space isn’t needed to grow food. I’m always in awe of all the activity and life that happens in the small area that we have.
Here’s my first tray of greens to plant in the garden. The experiment this year is to grow as many greens as possible so we don’t rely on the greens from the grocery store. Greens love the cooler weather in the early spring and fall. I’m hoping to keep them protected from the summer’s heat by growing them around and below taller plants like tomatoes, marigolds, peppers, and herbs.
