Art in the Kitchen: Spinach & Cheddar Scones
These savory scones are super easy to make. Feel free to add more cheese, spinach if you like or change the ingredients all together. Use this recipe as a base and then make it your own. They’re great for breakfast and are more delicious warm. Enjoy!
Ingredients:
2 cups all purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
2 tablespoons cold butter, cut in small pieces
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup spinach, chopped
1/2 tablespoon garlic powder
1 cup milk
2 tablespoons butter, melted (to use before baking)
Preparation:
Heat oven at 425 F. Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a bowl, add flour, baking powder, salt and garlic powder.
Cut cold butter with a knife or pastry cutter until they’re small pieces the size of a pea.
Add butter pieces to the flour mix and use your hands until they’re incorporated in the flour mix. Then add cheese and spinach, and milk until all ingredients are combined.
Shape into a round disk, 1 inch thick and about 8 inches in diameter.
Cut in 8 triangles and if prefer, then cut in smaller triangles.
Brush with melted butter before baking.
Bake at 425 F for 14-16 minutes or until golden brown.
